Heart For The Homeless, a not-for-profit organisation that connects people who have clothing, furniture and appliances to give away, with local charities that are able to make those 'resources' available to others.

As the only real estate agent connected with Heart For The Homeless in metropolitan Adelaide, we are able to make it easy for our clients to have unwanted materials collected from their homes (before or after being on the market) so they can have an easy sale and post-sale process while helping people in need.

The McGrath Real Estate difference: We sell your house then help clear out your unwanted furniture

When is a house sale truly complete?

At McGrath Real Estate, we believe the sale process is not over until you've been able to clear out your unwanted furniture, clothing, and other reusable items, and have safely settled into your your home.

This is one of the many reasons we are foundation sponsors of Heart For The Homeless, a not-for-profit organisation that connects people who have clothing, furniture and appliances to give away, with local charities that are able to make those 'resources' available to others.

As the only real estate agent connected with Heart For The Homeless in metropolitan Adelaide, we are able to make it easy for our clients to have unwanted materials collected from their homes (before or after being on the market) so they can have an easy sale and post-sale process while helping people in need.

Clear out your unwanted furniture, create a win win win

Our mission statement includes the line, adding value to others, and we believe by being foundation sponsors of Heart For The Homeless:

  • Local charities derive value from our support
  • Our clients derive value from easy access to free pick up of unwanted items
  • People in need in our community derive value from furniture, clothes and appliances

Sometimes, Heart For The Homeless enables the direct transfer of items to recipients, while at other times charities sell the items to fund meals and support services.

Here's a simple and clever video that describes the process.

And so far this year, we can report that:

  • 96 collections have been registered
  • 3,360kg of 'resources' have been rescued
  • $13,440 is the dollar value of these 'resources'
  • 19.2 homes have been furnished (the equivalent of that many homes, in reality, the goods get spread further and wider than that)

Even if you are not selling your home through McGrath Real Estate, we encourage you to consider arranging your own collection of unwanted materials through the It's Your Move initiative.

How it works

The "It's Your Move" Initiative in Action

Step 1 - McGrath Real Estate agents give you an "It's Your Move" card.
Step 2 - You go to the Heart For The Homeless website and register your move
Step 3 - The system automatically synchronises the donation request with the local partner charity in the area where you are moving from
Step 4 - A partner charity contacts you within 24 hours, arranges and carries out the collection for FREE
Step 5 - The partner charity re-distributes the items to those in need or raises funds for crisis counselling, emergency housing and various programs on the ground.

Heart For The Homeless is run by volunteers so the funds go directly to the initiative, but our sponsorship is needed to fund the technology and support marketing campaigns promoting the initiative across Australia.
