Paul McGrath and Joh Graney, McGrath Real Estate Small Employer Of The Year finalist in the REISA SA NT Awards 2017

Paul McGrath and Joh Graney, at the REISA session for Awards finalists

The countdown is on in the lead up to the 2017 Real Estate Institute of South Australia Awards on October 14, in which McGrath Real Estate is a finalist for Small Employer Of The Year in South Australia and the Northern Territory.

This will be an important milestone for our team because McGrath Real Estate is a family business that has taken the step to bring in expertise to manage its future and its operations, so that it continues to grow into the future.

Over the next few weeks, the team will be grilled by judges, working through an exhaustive process to verify the various systems and procedures we have in place to make working for McGrath something that supports you as a whole person, not just the part of you that clocks in and clocks out.

Employer Of The Year: Putting people first pays a dividend

As I wrote about in 6-star service in a 3-star world, back in July 2016, it’s not just feel-good marketing talk to say that we put people first—for us it’s really just sound business practice.

Working well with people, with their various experiences, emotions, motivations and backgrounds, is key to achieving a great record in property sales.

While there is a long list of little things we do to support each other, we are confident that our method of keeping our ratio of listed properties to agents at a level that ensures none of our sales team become too busy to maintain the 6-star standard of service, will be a key part in the decisions of the judges.

And in a move that has long been atypical in the family-business sector, McGrath has its eye closely on succession planning, ensuring all staff have pathways to further achievement and development into the future.

We are looking forward to the remainder of the judging program and hoping that a win will give us a platform for sharing our practices and values with more people.
