We get to decide

We get to decide
Have you ever gotten stuck in a rut with your thinking? It might be about a situation, relationship, job or just a diet. And you spend days, weeks, months obsessing over it.

You talk to your family and friends about it, you complain to your colleagues at work about it, and at times it might even keep you up at night thinking about it.

And you know something needs to change, but you are just, well, stuck!

I’m sure we’ve all been there where we let a bad situation drag on for far too long, we put up with bad behaviour or make excuses, but we need to remember that in every situation, we get to choose how we live our lives and how we react to situations.

We get to choose what we want to accept, how we internalise our stresses in life and what situations we put ourselves in.

Now, I'm not saying that making tough decisions is easy, and we can't always walk away from a job we don't like or a relationship that is no longer serving us; we are adults, and we need to manage and weigh up all the options and scenarios. But what I am saying is that we get to make decisions each day about how we live our life to the fullest.

There are very few situations where we are really stuck. If we don't like our job, we don't have to quit straight away, but we can start looking for new opportunities or upskilling. Or we might just look at shifting the way we think about our work and stop stressing about how we interact with our boss.

So many things in life are out of our control, and the one thing we can control is how we react to situations in life.

The beautiful thing about being human is we can move, we can evolve, we can change, we can grow, and we can change our situation at any time.

There is that great saying, “You are one decision away from a totally different life", And that can be very true for most of us.

So, if you feel a little stuck right now for whatever reason, start with some minor changes. Take an online course, cut out the caffeine from your diet, read some books on relationship management. Whatever it may be for you, take a step to make your situation better.

Remember, when you are at a crossroads in life, and you need to make a change, it can be scary, but there is always something better on the other side of fear. There will always be new experiences and better situations for you. You just need to have faith and take the leap.
