How to find daily joy
When was the last time that you felt joy? Joy can bring about a great feeling of pleasure and happiness and is one of those emotions that can really put a spring in our step.

We often seek out things on a daily basis that can cause a lot of other emotions; like when we are chasing career progression and ambition, we can often get met with emotions of frustration, achievement and overwhelm.

We are often so busy chasing things and progress in life that we often forget to try and add joy to our days.

Here are some ways to be more present and add some more joy back into your life.

Look for meaning

Even if you are going through a rough time now, look for the meaning in hard times. There is always something to take out of tough times in learnings, silver linings or growth.

For example, possibly these crazy Covid times and lockdown life means you have had more slow downtime, more time with your kids, more time to savour what matters. Look for these meanings in the everyday challenges of life.

Make a joy list

What brings you joy? The question seems simple enough, but when was the last time you really considered it?

Thinking about what really makes you happy—spending time with friends, aspects of your work, or perhaps something else entirely—can help you make time for what truly matters.

Give a little bit

There’s a reason why the adage “it’s better to give than to receive” has stood the test of time. It’s actually true, especially regarding cultivating joy.

So, give to others; you might mentor a colleague or friend, choose to add some volunteering to your days or give to someone you don't know through a charitable donation.

Skip negative news first thing in the morning

It doesn’t take a scientist to know that seeing or hearing negative news broadcasts can have an immediate effect on your stress level.

Try and stay away from news first thing in the morning, instead; enjoy a cup of tea or breakfast with your family, go for a walk, listen to some of your favourite tunes on the way to work or even an inspiring Podcast.

Dance, Skip and let live a little bit

Sometimes joy is in the spontaneity of life. So, allow yourself to enjoy the moments – skip, dance in the kitchen, run out in the rain, take a day off work to hang out on the beach, or whatever it is that makes you feel happy and content right now.
